The trauma and the idiocy these people cause us
To deconstruct this one, first I want to go into who I am and what this means to me. If this makes me biased, now you know! I’m trans.
A lot of the bullying I experienced happened under the chant “there are only two genders”.
Secondly, I want you to know that M.T.G. originally placed this horrendously ugly sign on her door in response to her across-the-hall colleague (who is the mother of a trans daughter) putting up a trans pride flag.
Now, besides being ugly and hurtful to me personally and many people I know, why is this sign dumb? Why is it bad?
- Binary trans people aren’t a third gender- this sign, in response to a colleague having a trans daughter, is completely nonsensical. This needlessly demonstrates again how transphobic (seeing binary trans people as a “third gender”, especially transgirls and transwomen, is absolutely transphobic. Trans men are men, trans women are women- people who identify otherwise may identify as a third gender!) and fundamentally confused M.T.G. is.
- There are more than two genders, and saying otherwise does not erase nonbinary, intersex, and/or gnc people. When we’re standing in front of you, saying “trust the science, you aren’t here!” does nothing.
- “Trust the science”- my first point regarding this part of the sign is the point most commentators seized apon: she doesn’t believe in most science. Her hypocrisy and bigotry are vile.
- “Trust the science”- my second point is, to me, equally important: science validates both binary and non-binary trans people! What science do you want us to turn to, M.T.G.?! The “science” that says vaccines cause cancer? The “science” that says a bundle of cells has sentience, but animals do not? Hmmm…
In conclusion, trans people are human, trans women are women, trans men are men, and nonbinary people are,,, nonbinary!
Protect trans kids.
