Too often I encounter “well-meaning" (that's a stretch) cis people who write loud, authoritative essays on the roots of transness and/or gender itself. It might seem supremacist or rude to say trans voices should be heard more than cis ones, but when it comes to gender, why not?
Even cis people who have had an “abnormal” experience with gender (according to the western standards we know) should be heard more than cis, conforming men and women.
People like J.K. Rowling, Jessie Singal, and “Jimmy Knibbe" are prime examples of ignorant and loud self-important cis people. They remind me of Ben Shapiro with the matter-of-fact tone they use to spew lies and hurtful inaccuracies about gender and trans people (often kids).
Cis-conforming people shouldn’t be the primary people given a platform to voice their “opinions" about a subject trans people live. The people defining gender are the ones living outside society’s bounds for it.
Talking about gender under the ruse of “protecting kids" (from transness) is useless. As a trans youth, I promise we are not being encouraged to transition. Your hateful voice is a fraction of the pain we suffer for being trans, and no, it’s not because of our friends or the internet.
Too often, insensitive and false statements about trans identity are popularized by cis and conforming “moms and dads". These hurt the kids they “care" about.
As a trans youth, it’s hurt to see transphobic people (who are SO sure they’re right) get positive attention. It hurts even more when that attention comes from other trans people.
Maybe those of us who have lived under these attacks and those of us who have grown up experiencing these attacks from our trusted adults and extended social lives should be heard as much as Marjorie Taylor Greene.
My whole life, these same people told me I would regret transitioning. That it was “just a phase” and that I was confused. It’s been nearly 5 years, and my transness has not wavered.
Why should they be heard over me? They’re the ones who were confused.
